The hamlet of Cryon
Cryon is located on the Kamilaroi Highway between Walgett & Burren Junction.
In the early days, Cryon was a thriving settlement with a hotel, stores and large trucking areas. The railway line went there in 1905. Today, most of the buildings have disappeared, however the Cryon wheat silos have expanded with new storage bunkers, a feedlot is operating and the old pub has been converted into a backpackers lodge and licensed restaurant and function centre.
The Cryon Red Cross has been operating continuously since 1942 and has won many prizes for their fundraising efforts for districts with populations under 500 people.
